Chicago is a beautiful city with huge skyscrapers. The "Windy City" is also the center of culture, entertainment and especially jazz and blues music. Chicago has many attractions, such as the Chicago Water Tower, the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), the Hancock Building and the Navy Pier. The city is located on Lake Michigan and has beautiful shores with many beaches and parks. The Magnificent Mile is a famous stretch of "Michigan Avenue. This is still a very prestigious boulevard and has many historic buildings and 'landmarks' that set the mood. Along this 'Mile' are numerous chain stores, restaurants, hotels and museums.
You leave the city and travel south through the 'Land of Lincoln", the region where former President Abraham Lincoln lived, worked and passed away. Many highlights are located in and around Springfiels, the capital of Illinois. You can visit Lincolns Home and Lincolns Tomb. Travel to St. Louis and lodgings.
Visit St. Louis with the famous Gateway Arch, the Anheuser-Busch brewery, the new cathedral, the wondefully restored Union Station, parks and musea. In the afternoon, you travel to Springfield via the 'Old Route 66'
Enjoy a walk through the historic town, situated in the hart of the Ozark Mountains. Visit the Bentley House and the Fantastic Caverns. Keep following the Old Route 66 to Tulsa and make a stop in Cathage, Joplin, Miami (Coleman Theater) and Foyil (sculpted totems).
Tulsa is considered the heart of the petroleum industry in Oklahoma and was founded by the Creek - Indians. You can visit several wonderful art centers. Afterwards to Oklahoma City and discover the city: National Cowboy Hall of Fame, Western Heritage Museum, the Capitole, the City Zoo.
Discover the memories of long past times of the Route 66 days in Clinton, Sayre, the decor for The Grapes of Wrath), Shamrock, McLean (Devil's Rope Museum). Before bed, at night time, Amarillo is wonderful for a walk.
Amarillo is the unofficial capital of the Panhandle Plains. A city with an interesting past, due to its location on the famous Route 66, somewhat isolated in the great plains. The area around Amarillo is relatively flat but very vast, the landscape you know from the many westerns shot in Texas. In Amarillo you will find attractions such as the Cadillac Ranch, the famous restaurant The Big Texan Ranch and Wonderland Park. And nearby, a visit to the beautiful Palo Duro Canyon park is not to be missed.
Further to the west, across the border with New Mexico to the historic town of Tucumcari. Just a few hours drive to reach Albuquerque. A wonderful city, situated at the Rio Grande with the Old Town Plaza, the Indian Pueblo Center, the Sandia Peak Tramway, and more.
A day trip tot Santa Fe, situated along the original Route 66 and a melting pot of Indian, Spanish and American culture. Visit the Palace of the Governors, the Museum of International Folk Art and wonderful art aterliers. From Santa Fe, side trips to Taos and Los Alamos are possible.
Acoma Pueblo & Mission, Gallup with several beautiful Indian art centers, Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Park are only a few of the highlights!
Via historic towns such as Joseph City and Winslow, you drive to Flagstaff. You drive further north to reach the Grand Canyons eastern panoramas. You can make wonderful pictures of the sunset above Desert View Point. Lodgings in one of the hotels near the park.
In the morning, you can visit several viewpoints at the South Rim of the park and might even take a helicopter flight (optional). In the late afternoon, you drive a couple of hours to the notorious Las Vegas, the city of glitter and glamour.
Passing the Mojave Desert to LA. Right before you reach Barstow, you can visit the ghost town of Calico. At Barstow, you take Route 66 through the San Bernardino Mountains to the City of Angels: Los Angeles.
