After picking up your rental car at the Alamo office at the Newark Airport, you travel north through the beautiful coast region and past cozy fishing villages in Connecticut. Take some time to make a stop in Newport, the cradle of the famous America's Cup races and discover the 10 Mile Ocean Drive, surrounded with extravagant villas and summer residences. Via Providence to Boston.
Visit of the city: the historic downtown with Faneuil Hall Marketplace, follow the walk of the Freedom Trail, take a boattrip in the harbor and enjoy a tour with a typical trolley through Cambrigde.
Softly shaped green hills and delicately coloured villages accompany you on your way to New York State. Stop at Stockbridge, a charming little town and home to many artists. Further on you arrive in Albany, the state capital and starting point for exploring the Adirondack Mountains. Visit of the State Capitol, the New York State Museum (9/11 disaster exhibition) and the Corning Tower, a panoramic platform.
A brief visit of Syracuse, the city of hills, valleys, lakes and creeks. The city is located at the shore of Lake Ontario, just 32 kilometers from the beautiful region of the 'Finger Lakes'. Around these lakes, you will find a dozen vineyards on your way to another highlight, the Niagara Falls. You can start with a first encounter and plan a romantic diner with a view on the Falls.
Something you cannot miss today, is a boat tour with the "Maid of the Mist" right next to the waterfall. At the top of Skylon Tower you can admire a beautiful sound and light show. And for those who would like to take it to the next level, can book a helicopter tour above the spectacular waterfalls. You can also take some time to discover Niagara-on-the-lakes and stop by some cozy little shops.
A calmy and relaxed drive through the south region of the 'Finger Lakes'. In Corning, you cannot miss the famous glass museum and afterwards, you travel through the hilly scenery to Pennsylvania State. The journey continues to Williansport, in the north of the Appalachian Mountains. Here you can make a boat trip with the Hiawatha. The Hiawatha is a realistic copy of a river boat, used on the Susquehanna river during the 19th and 20th century. Follow the river to the south to Harrisburg, the historic capital of Pennsylvania with an interesting story.
From time to time, you will enter a different world today. The Amish recant every form of change and technology since they arrived here. They do not possess cars, do not use electricity, telephones nor televions. After this cultural immersion, you hit the road to Gettysburg, a very important battlefield in the Civil War. At the Visitor Center, you will find all the information and documentation you need to visit several cemetries and the most famous battlefields around the city. The day ends in Washington, the capital of the USA and a very beautiful city with a lot of parks and stunning monuments.
Today you will have a chance to explore more of the nation’s capitol. Visit the city’s most famous sites which are mostly concentrated along the National Mall, often called the “Nation’s Front Yard”; it expands from the Lincoln Memorial on the Potomac to the Capitol Building and Supreme Court on Capitol Hill. Along the Mall are the majority of the 18 museums which comprise the Smithsonian Institution, the War Memorials, and the Washington Monument which offers rides to the top of the obelisk and lies south of the illustrious White House. Other points of interest are Arlington National Cemetery, the Library of Congress, the National Cathedral, and the National Zoo. Of course, there is more to Washington than historical site-seeing. Washington has also developed an active nightlife. Besides the world-class restaurants, you can see Broadway shows, Washingtononly political satires, and live music of all types. At the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, you can catch live theater and music performances.
